Update Your Doors
Written By: Denis Sherlock ~ 2/1/2024

doors.jpgRecently I have had some customers confused about doors, both interior and exterior. Often I have some one ask to replace a door and I ask pre hung or slab only?

Pre- Hung means it comes with hinges and a jamb assembled and a Slab is just the door. Most people say "well the jamb seems fine so lets just do the slab".

Well its not that simple, doors even though marketed as the same size are rarely the same size. If you want to replace a 30 inch wide door from 20 years ago a 30 inch door today will probably not fit, even if it is the same manufacturer. Every door is a little different and often your house or jamb may have settled and will only fit the old door you plan to replace.  So rather than spending many labor hours customizing or rebuilding the Jamb it is worth it to pay the extra 40 bucks to order the Pre-hung door.

Interior doors of course are much easier to do and several can be replaced in a day were as an exterior door can take the better part of the day to do since you have to deal with the Siding and Trim.  They are also usually anchored to the studs pretty well.
