Siding and Dry Rot

Recently we replaced some siding for a home in Maple Valley. That made us realized that several homes across the region may have the same siding and possibly the same problems associated with it. You may know if you have T111 (4x8 sheets with vertical grooved every 8 or 4 inches). The T111 siding in this case is made by the LP company and out of a material that is now outlawed here in Washington State for home siding use. It is pressed board embossed with wood grain and has a terrible problem with wicking moisture and expanding and eventually rotting causing sheathing and framing rot as well.

We were hired to remove this siding on one side of the house and what we found was extensive dry rot under the siding and band board. We did removed all the siding on the south side of the house found rotted 7/16 osb ply (you could push your finger through with ease). We then removed the top windows and re sheathed the side, installed new vapor barrier (house wrap), installed the windows, flashed them properly and re-installed New CDX T111 ( a much better product) and still looks the same as the old product.

We were able to do one side only and still match the look of the house. On the sides we did not re-side we removed the rotted (trim) band board cut the rotted bottom edge of the siding off and installed a larger band board recessed in and properly installed.
